| Home Audio Equipment - Choosing a Retailer |
|
Home Audio Home > Home Audio Equipment Home audio equipment speeds down the highway to the fun zone.Buying home audio equipment can cost a substantial amount of money. Choosing to buy your sound equipment from a reputable dealer means better service, more value for money and perhaps even discounts on future products. The quality of your stereo often has a lot to do with the advice and help you receive from a salesperson, especially if you're a novice. When it comes to home audio retailers there are the good, the bad and the downright ugly. When you go to a store that specializes in home audio equipment Ask the salesperson how long the store has been in business and whether their product sales include service contracts. Next ask yourself whether this is a retailer you want to be associated with, perhaps for years to come. Along with the service aspect you want to find out just how knowledgeable the sales staff are. These are the individuals who will be advising you on your choice of home audio Ask them to tell you about any piece of home audio equipment in the store. How do they react? Are they confident about the information they are sharing with you? Do they ask you questions about your own needs? Are they rushing through the information to get to the next customer? What is your overall impression? Now it's time to ask the "big question". Many audio-only stores offer the option of taking certain items of home audio equipment home for a limited period as a trial-run. This is a unique chance to find out what the equipment is made of and whether you want to purchase it for your home. This is a great service feature and should at least convince you that the store means business. If your buying your home audio equipment from a boutique dealer ask about their qualifications. Is the store a member of CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) and/or PARA (Professional Audio Retailers Association). This will offer you some assurance that they fulfill the basic guidelines for selling home audio goods. Such stores should service their products and offer installation and setup assistance. Also find out whether the salespersons are paid by salary or commission. Salaried staff will be less concerned with selling to you at the highest price. Where possible stay away from stores where salespeople earn commissions on the home audio equipment they sell. They might not have your best interests at heart. Confessions of a My Movies Junkie
Most of the indispensable add-on components of my HTPC didn’t start out that way, or rather it’s the quieter, almost utilitarian additions to my HTPC that I couldn’t live without now. The oh golly gee look how cool this thing is gizmos that initially excite, often fall out of favor as time goes on. While [...] Mini Review: Samsung LNT4065F 40″ 1080p LCD
The video really pushed the boundaries of what I would have assumed possible just a few short years ago, I honestly was beginning to wonder if detail like this was possible from consumer based displays, it clearly (no pun intended) is. Panasonic’s BD-Live Capable DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player
In my estimation every new Blu-ray player that launches with BD Live capabilities (like Panasonics recent DMP-BD50 ) is a good thing for the format. Tube TV’s: Never Can Say Goodbye
Yes I was thinking of that song when I punched in the post title, anyway yeah… While doing a bit of catch-up this week I ran across a headline from Dealerscope that read “Weak Economy Leads to Tube TV Comeback”. I thought for a second, hey didn’t we get rid of tube televisions? Ok, no [...] Catching up on Lost, Enjoying Mario Kart and Re-Discovering Charlie Chan
What do those three things have to do with one another? Not much as far as I can tell but we’ve been enjoying the heck out of all three lately. Sometimes you just have to step back, pop in a good movie (or game) and get back to what it’s all about, after all home [...] Dolby’s Home Theater Buying Guide
I’ve always been a bit leery of “buying guides” as they generally only exist to push specific products or a specific selection of products. But I suppose you could do a lot worse than taking some advice from Dolby Labs, after all they probably already have IP in your home, all they could to do [...] Attend a Home Theater Meet
That’s right, I’m recommending that you call up complete strangers, ask to come to their home/meeting place and discuss your hobby’s with them... It Was Only a Matter of Time
While I wasn’t expecting it this soon, I can’t say as I’m totally taken by surprise to find a Columbia House offer for 3 Blu-ray discs for $4.99 in my mail this week. The offer seems attractive enough, you pick of three discs with movies like 300, I Am Legend, Spider Man 3, Harry Potter [...] HDMI Switcher with Front Display
The other day while cruising through Best Buy for a video card, I noticed a HDMI switcher from “Psyclone” with a front display. I kept on going then I thought to myself, hey a HDMI switcher with a front display, neat. Now I know in a perfect A/V world you wouldn’t even need a HDMI [...] Netflix Rentals on the Xbox 360
Yep, it finally happened. Well not yet, but soon. As a part of this fall’s Xbox Live update, Xbox 360 users will be able to access Netflix’s vast and ever growing library of films at (according to John Schapper, corporate VP of Xbox Live) no additional cost. “Netflix has revolutionized the movie industry, and now that [...] |
